Social Inclusion & Connection

Why Social Inclusion and Connection Matter

Meaningful social connections are essential to wellbeing. For people living with dementia, opportunities to build friendships, enjoy familiar activities and remain involved in community life can help reduce loneliness, strengthen confidence and promote a sense of belonging.

Social isolation and loneliness can affect anyone, but people living with dementia may face additional barriers to maintaining friendships and participating in community life. Changes in memory, communication and confidence can make social situations more challenging, while stigma and misunderstanding may leave individuals feeling excluded or disconnected.

Staying socially connected can support emotional wellbeing, provide opportunities for enjoyment and help people maintain a sense of identity and belonging. Meaningful conversations, familiar activities and welcoming community environments can make a positive difference to everyday life.

At Dementia Outreach CIC, we believe that everyone deserves opportunities to feel included, valued and connected. Through dementia-friendly social activities, community engagement and local partnerships, we aim to reduce isolation and create opportunities for people living with dementia, their families and unpaid carers to build meaningful relationships across Hertfordshire.

Building Connections and Reducing Isolation

Meaningful Relationships and Friendships

Friendship, conversation and shared experiences help people feel valued and connected. For people living with dementia, maintaining relationships and enjoying meaningful social contact can support confidence, emotional wellbeing and a sense of belonging.

Inclusive Community Participation

We want to build a world where no child or youth feels alone and gets every possible help they need as soon as possible.

Everyone deserves the opportunity to remain active, included and connected to their community. People living with dementia should be supported to participate in social activities, maintain their interests and enjoy meaningful experiences in welcoming, dementia-friendly environments.
